Our exclusive vintage and hand painted textiles are the “special sauce” we are able to offer exclusively to our clients with whom we work on full-scale home renovations.
We love old world materials that feel like they have a story, a history; materials that embrace old world production, a slow process of creation that produces a wonderfully rich texture. We work with a range of materials; some are up to a hundred years old, some are hand-loomed and others loomed on machines that are from an era when the weaving tradition wasn’t sent overseas.
These antique fabrics were once dowry blankets passed down from generation to generation, and others are remnants of vintage hemp rolls that were hoarded and sold in flea markets. Many feature original hand stitched seams, embroidered signatures, fringe and/or patches.
What each of our texture-full surfaces has in common is that they don’t feel perfect or slick; they are not of the modern-world. All our materials show proof of traditional craftsmanship and have a soul.
We paint these beautiful fabrics in layers to impart depth of color while also taking advantage of each piece’s rich vintage texture. Unlike garment dyeing or dip-dyeing, our hand painting process allows us to control the placement of color specifically on each blanket. We layer hues, we blend complementary tones and we use color to highlight the natural texture of these beautiful vintage fabrics.
We offer our made-to-order, hand painted vintage fabrics and goods like blankets, pillows and headboards exclusively to our interior design clients. These collectible heirloom pieces bring history, color + texture to each of the Mediterranean rooms we design.
